The purpose and benefits of smudging
Burning Sage is known as ‘smudging’ and it is an ancient spiritual ritual well established in Native American Indian culture to cleanse stagnant energy.
White Sage belongs to the Salvia plant family derived from the Latin word salvere which means to heal. White Sage is burned to purify the air with its antimicrobial properties. Research has showed a reduction in airborne bacteria by more than 94%. Sage has the ability to dispel damaging positive ions in the atmosphere like dust and pollution. I use it to cleanse the air in my treatment room between treatments to create a new and fresh atmosphere for each client.
White Sage has a long history of use in Egypt, Rome and Greek medicine as well as the Native American healing traditions. Burning Sage has many positive effects by activating certain receptors in the brain responsible for elevating mood, reducing stress, promoting sleep and alleviating pain. Sage is also very well known for its ability to promote focus and improve memory
